Spotlight | Hira

The first track I heard from him is his song “Just When I”, which definitely grabs your attention; the production of the song is very different to say the least. It has the smooth R&B, Pop structured production which compliments his tone but above the surface there are many other production effects that on paper, should make it messy and disjointed. Instead, he is able to merge the original, nostalgic tone of the song with a futuristic backdrop which in turn creates a new breed of record.

In an interview with Dazed Magazine, he explains that the production of the song was inspired by AI generated music. This type of forward-thinking approach in relation to his music explains why he is signed to The PAUL Institute, a label founded and run by both Jai and A.K. Paul, two of the most forward thinking and celebrated artists in the UK.

Hira saw a rise in popularity a few months ago when he performed his track “Y” on COLORS. The song itself is full of funk and groove and draws comparisons to Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Right now, Hira is gearing up for the release of his debut EP “Pure Gas” which will be out on September 17th. The first offering from the project was the single “Reminisce” which lyrically, grapples with the idea of our different perspectives of a memory. We can look back at the exact same memory with a different lens depending on our emotional state and outlook at the time. Sonically, the track explores different genres and blends them together to create a multi-layered piece of work. Just like the lyrical theme ,this conjures a tug of war in the production style. In the beginning half, the track is slightly more bold and ‘in your face’ which mirrors the negative connotations one can have when looking back at a memory. However, the track then mellows out to create a more smooth feeling which obviously coincides with the positive nostalgic feeling one can get over time when looking back at a memory. It’s this ability to really think about how his production can reflect the lyrical themes in his songs that make him such an exciting artist, and how daring he can be when it comes to the choices he makes. It also helps that he has both Jai and A.K. by his side, guiding him on his journey.

As of now, Hira hasn’t performed any live shows to the public, but hopefully that will change soon in order to promote his upcoming EP “Pure Gas”. In the meantime follow him on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/hira.world/  to keep up to date with him and stream his  EP  “Pure Gas”.
