Speaking of collaborations and new releases this year, you certainly cannot miss the latest release by two superstars in the music scene. Brazilian activist, singer-songwriter, world renowned drag queen, and cross-cultural icon, Pabllo Vittar has teamed up with the stunning and multifaceted British Japanese pop artist Rina Sawayama to unveil their brand new single, “Follow Me”
“Follow Me” is a stomping pop banger from Pabllo and Rina that is sure to set the world alight this summer. Pabllo’s iconic falsetto blends perfectly with Rina’s recognisable vocals as the pair gift fans the perfect duet. They give listeners a slice of pop perfection with the thumping bass contrasting against the contagious guitar riff.
The single is accompanied by a high energy video directed by Amber Park (Co-creator of ‘I Like You, You’re Weird,’ Lil Yachty, Apple Music, Madison Beer), alongside creative director, Lauren Kessler (Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers, Flying Lotus). The visual sees Pabllo Vittar and Rina Sawayama take centre stage wearing vintage Dior, teamed with emerging designers such as Area and Rui Zhou as they “serve face” on the runway commanding fans to “follow me.”
The duo’s collaboration has sparked excitement among fans as they sing praises of each other as “icons”. Pabllo shares,
“I’m so excited to release this song with Rina – she is such an icon and I’m so pleased we managed to make this song work as it’s the perfect combination of our music styles. I really hope the fans love it as much as we do. Shooting the video was so much fun as well, wearing iconic outfits, and strutting our stuff on the runway! SERVE!”
Rina Sawayama continues to honour her counterpart and reveals that she has been a longtime admirer of the Brazilian’s work. Their ability to complement each other’s vocals and production skills is evidently distinct in the way the track evokes an upbeat and unforgettable melody.
“I have been such an admirer of Pabllo for so long – she is nothing short of an icon and so for us to collaborate on an original I wanted a moment that felt fitting. When she sent me the idea for Follow Me I was just in love with it immediately and the process from then has been a dream. From working on the music to the video, I’m honored to be a part of the song and be let into her world – I hope both hers and my gorgeous fans are as obsessed with it as we are”
Both superstars have earned their reputation for exuding incommensurable talent in their own rights. Those who are unfamiliar with Pabllo often tend to overlook her achievement outside of her social media content. Pabllo Vittar is currently the most followed drag queen on social media worldwide with 35+ million followers across all platforms. She has starred in campaigns for international brands such as Calvin Klein, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Sky Vodka, and more.
On the other hand, the most effervescent quality of Rina Sawayama is her nomination for BRITs Rising Star in 2020 as she was named one of TIME Magazine’s Next Generation Leaders. She has collaborated with key industry figures like Elton John, Charli XCX, Bloodpop, Shamir – alongside her prolific career in modelling for Balmain, MAC, Versace, Skull Candy, Mercedes Benz Fashion and more.
Coming up, the new year is set to be a busy year ahead for both popstars. Pabllo will be heading out on the road to tour across South and North America and Europe. She will headline venues including The Fonda Theatre in LA, Terminal 5 in NYC, and The Electric Brixton in London with support from Urias, Ms Nina, Alice Longyu Gao, and La Goony Chonga as well as performing at festivals such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, Primavera, Melt! and Mighty Hoopla.
