Mckenna Grace Defies All Odds

Grace is unbelievably gifted and has a bright future ahead of her.

LOOP Magazine was lucky enough to catch up with the rising actress/singer about the single and film.

Congrats on everything! Your new single “Haunted House” is featured in the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife film. You were fantastic in it by the way! Describe the creation process behind it and how did it get placement in the film?

I created this song a while ago sitting on my living room floor, I never imagined that it would end up in Ghostbusters! I sent it to Jason Rietman to see if he would want to direct my music video and instead he put it in the film! It all happened so weirdly quick and randomly. I’m eternally grateful for it though.

How did your journey begin? Did you always want to get into music?

I started out in acting when I was 6! It’s been a long weird journey but I’ve loved it. Music has always been a big part of my life but my love for it has only grown over the years, through covid though is when I really discovered it was what I wanted to do though.

What was it like working with such an all star cast in the film? Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard? Must’ve been pretty special!

It was really special. Finn is one of the coolest people I know, and Mr. Paul was such a pleasure to work with. I feel honored to have been able to work alongside them, and Ms. Carrie Coon is an incredible powerhouse of an actress so I feel so special to be able to know her and work with her.

What was the hardest thing about filming the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife film?

I’d say the hardest part of working on Ghostbusters was probably after I was done having to wait 2 years for it to come out! We all had to sit and wait and not spoil anything! I really wanted to tell my friends about the film but had to stay secretive. it’s so nice to finally have been able to share our film with the world now

How did you come up with the concept for the music video? Describe the creative process behind it.

I had never really done anything like that, I just had this very clear vision of what I wanted to do so I sat and just wrote it all out the best I could! I would play the song over and over and walk my parents through my vision for the video frame by frame. it was really funny but so cool to see it come to life

What was your favorite part about filming Ghostbusters?

I loved filming ghostbusters and seeing all these props and iconic things I loved since I was little. being able to work on one of my all time favorite childhood films was incredible! Every day was like a dream, and the cast and crew were so fun and lovely. Mr. Jason was an amazing director who I have so much respect for.

What are some goals on your bucket list?

I’d love to be in a musical or to be a superhero in a film. I really want to do an A24 film someday. I want to attend the Oscars”…own a pet chicken”…Work with Steven Spielberg, write and direct my own film someday”…many many things haha

Can listeners expect more music? What can you tease about it?

I’m exploring more and more places in music every session I go into! I’ve been working on some rockier stuff haha. I’m very very excited for listeners to see a different side of me.

What’s next for you acting wise?

This year is really crazy! Right now, I’m going through a full body transformation for a film called Perfect directed by Olivia Wilde. I’m also filming season 5 of Handmaid’s Tale before and after I’m doing that movie. I’m still working on a project with Amazon called Rabbit Cake. I have some animated projects and also a really amazing film I can’t talk about yet. My dad and I have been writing new projects. I’m also writing more music and recording and doing the music videos for the songs I’ve already written. This year is gonna be wild and busy but I’m very excited and thankful!
